On Biggar Pond and Other Poems
Tinto Hill

Time weighs heavily on your shoulders

Impacting your grandeur in its fist

Not for you the steeple of a peak

Thrusting heavenward beyond the clouds

Or a snowcap tonsuring your crown

Heaped beside the Southern Uplands your

Immensity bears down on itself

Like a ruin whose roof has collapsed

Leaving the past compacted within
